EC Centrifugal Safety Brake

The EC Centrifugal Safety Brake controls the descent speed when it is carried out without the actuation, voluntary or accidental, of the motorization.

 

Its operating principle is the centrifugal force, which acts on masses that friction on a static drum.

 

Centrifugal force is an exponential function of speed and a balance is always reached between the power of the load when descending and the braking power.

 

The equilibrium speed will be the one that will hold the load until it reaches the limit or until a parking brake is applied.

Consequently centrifugal brakes are not locking brakes but holding brakes.

 

By its nature the best results are obtained on fast axes.

 

They will normally be applied between motor and reducer, with a setting such that they only brake when the nominal speed of the motor is exceeded.

 

Centrifugal brakes allow a controlled descent in the absence of motorization and in the event of failure of the locking brake.

 

It does not allow uncontrolled acceleration of the load and the foreseeable accident becomes just an incident.

 

Obviously, both the locking brake and the centrifugal brake cannot prevent the accident if the anomaly occurs in the reducer or any element after them.

 

If the EC centrifugal brake is mounted by means of an independent transmission, this will behave as a final safety, since its action will be independent of whether a failure or breakage has rendered the locking brake or the reducer inoperable.

 

The EC Centrifugal Brake is also known as mechanical overspeed protection used by manufacturers of cranes, elevators and all kinds of overhead devices.

High protection.
